Operation Kitchen Table

The kitchen table legs after being cut off in height.

Glazing the last leg!

Our old master bathroom shower curtain, and foam.

Our old dining room table- ready for an extreme makeover!

Bichon watching as we cut the foam to the size of the table top.

David is such a wonderful husband and help-mate! Thanks honey! : )

Gluing the table top and placing it on the foam.

Letting it dry for about 10 minutes.

David working his magic with the staple gun, while mom and I work on sanding a nightstand.

David is lining up the edge of the shower curtain with the edge of the table, so that the pretty trim shows.

Almost finished!

The back side- we were checking to make sure it was holding tight!

Can't wait to get it all put together and show you the finished project!

The trim looks great! Who would have guessed it was our old shower curtain? : )

You guys are going to go crazy over this craft project I've cooked up! Absoulutely bannanas! It was completely free too! I took our old kitchen table and stuff from around the house, and made a bench to go in the master bedroom- good for putting on shoes, and great to fill up a long wall. Because it is a shower curtain, it is also very durable and water resistant. No need to worry about stains since they will just repel and wipe off! : ) Here are the materials:

1. Old kitchen table
2. Old shower curtain
3. Large piece of foam
4. Wood glue
5. thumbtacks
6. glaze
7. staple gun

I had David take our old kitchen table and cut the legs off. He cut the legs in half and gave them to me to glaze. That will make the table top more of a true bench height. He then cut a middle section out of the table and re-glued it back together, using some nails as well. That will make the table narrow, so it does not stick out too far off the wall. You have to put it back together once you cut out the middle section though, to have the hardware inside to put the legs back on. If you have a nicer table with a leaf, just remove the leaf. Next, we layed the table top on the piece of foam, and cut out a perfectly sized rectangle to fit the top. We sanded the table top down and glued the foam to the top of the table. We then put an old shower curtain I had from our house on Rob St. in Farmington on the top. We took a staple gun and pulled it tight and tacked it down. When the glazed legs dry, we will reattach them, and ta-da! We have a custom bench, cushy and soft, great for sitting! It was a cost-free project, and so personalized and cute! I will post more pictures tomorrow when the legs are on, and we set it up in the bedroom.
