Oh, Sticks!

Lately, I have been noticing just how much of my home decor is..well.. free. I have been on a stick kick. As in, scavenging sticks from the beautiful tree in our front yard and smuggling them in.  Sticks at Hobby Lobby have got "nothing" on these natural beauties. Did I mention they were free?  : )

They are on my mantle as we are gearing up for fall. Seriously. The high on Monday is 69 degrees. The high!

They are in sconces at the top of the landing.

They are in the master bedroom sitting room in a sconce {flat-backed bucket.} My parents will be here at our house tomorrow night- driving almost 1000 miles from Arkansas. Giddiness abounds! I have big plans for my mother to make a slipcover for this ottoman to match the one downstairs. The dark leather just doesn't feel right in here to me.

This room houses my makeup vanity and a reading chair, as well. There are also some built-in drawers that David uses for various things. I am so thankful for those as they provide great storage.

The master sitting room is another room with a rounded coved ceiling, just as the foyer, living room, and dining room have. Such fun character in older homes!

Well, hello there.

They are in the foyer.

And of course, above my kitchen sink in the garden window.

After seeing pictures of my landing from the coffee filter wreath tutorial, I decided to add a white metal bucket and some peacock feathers {and free sticks.} Maybe the landing was a little too white for me after all.

So there you have it. Free sticks! I only wish I had a pine cone producing tree in my front yard, too!

  1. I love all your free sticks, I went to Hobby Lobby to buy some sticks for a vase I got at a second hand thrift shop & Hobby Lobby wanted almost 7.00 per stick so I thought who in their right mind would pay that much for a stick,ha!!!Not me. I went home & used the flower stems in the flower beds that the flowers had dried up on them & they work just great. Dad even noticed them but it was 3 weeks later,ha!!!Can't wait to see you guys especially Harbor William.Of course Poppy & Gigi are bringing HW new toys.love you, Mom

  2. I love your sitting area! What a great place to read. I love your mom's idea of using stems from plants that have died for the summer.
