Nursery Update

The nursery is almost done!! I have been busy painting frames, painting canvases, having drapes made, and working on odds and ends.

This is a fun little frame I recently finished.

The name we have decided on is: Harbor William

We love that Harbor means "a place of refuge and safety", and William is a family name on both sides. Yes, Harbor as in a boat "harbor". We love the beach, what can we say??

The canvases from two posts ago, the ones I bought from Hobby Lobby, are ready to be hung! I had fun painting them both. They are not perfect by any means, but I love handmade, personalized decor.

I plan on hanging the "pear-fect" canvas behind the glider, and the monogram canvas over the changing table. We are hoping to have the changing table within the next few weeks.

Here is a peek into Harbor's closet. I have done a little shopping already. : ) Most things are actually from yard sales, but T.J. Maxx has made a small dent in our checkbook recently, as well. I love these navy and white crotchet booties from Tuesday Mornings, and these wild animal print socks! Fun!

In leu of filing in a typical baby book, I opted to write Harbor a letter for every month I have been pregnant. In each letter, I give the general Dr. information, but I also tell funny things people said, what we were up to, where we were going, how emotional I have been (Ha!), etc... I plan on creating a scrapbook for only the 9 months of pregnancy. After that, I think I will make a hardback coffee table book, like the other one I made in this post.

These are a pair of white, raw wood curtain finials from Lowes I am painting to use as tiebacks in Harbor's room. The "after" picture is really not a good picture- the paint is still wet and it is only the first coat. I will need at least three more coats to get a really even, deep color. They will be fun with the new drapes though.

Here are the fabulous drapes my granny made for me with my heck-of-deal fabric from Hancock's Fabric in Fayetteville. I love the color of the crushed velvet. Sometimes it looks gold and sometimes it looks green. It literally pools in the floor a good three feet, so when I have David install the finials as tie backs, I can't wait to see how it will change the look of the windows. David's paint job is complete, and it is really beautiful. Way to go, Dave! : )

And the best news... my bedding consultant emailed me tonight and said my bedding was ready to be picked up!!! Ahhh!!!! Stopeth the beating of my heart! I only met with her three weeks ago, and she already has it finished! Is that incredibly speedy work, or what? She even sent two pictures of it set up in a crib at her house!! I was going to wait to show pictures until tomorrow when I pick it up, but I can't help myself. It is exactly what I wanted and I am too excited to wait..

I love the burnt orange monogram, all the silk and velvet, and the fun variety of fabric. I think it will look so sweet in his room! I'll post more up-close pictures when I can actually see it in person- I think in person the colors are going to be even that much more vivid. : )

  1. WOW! That bedding is not at all what I imagined!!

Is the wall behind the crib staying the lighter brown? I thought it was going to be chocolate like the stripes? Just curious!

    Good luck with class tomorrow!!

  19. Oh so precious! Now every time you walk past Harbor's room you'll just have to stop in for a little moment in there! Great name, by the way. I like that it looks like a nursery, but won't look TOO babyish when he is older. Good for you for avoiding the pastels! ;) The personalized artwork is the perfect finishing touch. Aside from a nifty new baby, of course!

  25. I LOVE the name, and I LOVE the bedding! I like names that aren't too common but aren't "stupid" you know like... shadtree (a name I heard at a restaurant). We chose Bailey but it's not something you hear every day. And, her middle name is common just like William. I LOVE it. So cute! Your paintings are ADORABLE too. If I had space in Bailey's room I'd ask you to make me one! But as good as you are, it'd probably cost me way more than I can afford, lol. How was your first day of school?

  29. I am sure your talents as a Family Archiver will far outshine most anyone that I "know". I just wanted to share though that my youngest turned 12 yesterday and I really regret that I didn't take more photos and write more details. I am sure so many memories have been lost by thinking that I will get around to recording it "later". Everyone tells you that these years will fly and it is such a cliche; but, then, sadly, you find out that it is true.

  30. I love the name Harbor, I think that is so original. We have chosen Jeremiah for his name. I love the nursery, I wish that I could create things the way you do. We just have a "theme" with a bedding set and are picking up the coordinating accessories, and I'm going to do a wall mural. Everything looks great!
