Boys And Their Toys

There are a few things you need to know about my husband. He is very quiet, he is very laid back, and he is a clothes-horse. I have to steer him away from Banana Republic or else face being sucked into a world of $25 dollar white T-shirts. He manages our money, pays all of the bills, and even takes care of my stuff- I haven't cashed or deposited a single check in six years! I know what you may thinking.. how can any self-respecting, twenty-first century woman allow that? Well... I work hard, make good money, and spend it how I so choose. He just puts it in the bank and takes care of all of it. He is an investor. Have you heard of the envelope system, where a popular Christian book recommends setting up envelopes as a way to save money and stay on budget? David wouldn't have any of it. Not because it is a bad idea, but because money in an envelope doesn't gather interest. Because he is in banking, we have now had for the last few years six savings accounts- yes, six! One for our future offspring (so I can afford the bedding and maternity jeans I so lust after), one for vacation, general emergencies, tires, and so forth. He is a bit obsessive with our budget, graphing it and charting it on Excel. BUT! Things are always taken care of and I couldn't tell you what we paid for water last month, so I am happy. I only tell you all of this as a lead in to what happened at our house yesterday.

Yesterday, he had the day off. I knew he would stay busy, but I was not sure what he would do. He is a senior Engineering student (Thank you God! I feel like a single woman some days!) and is anticipating graduation in May of 09. I knew something was up when I found a pack of crisp, ecru paper on the desk in the office. Yesterday, because he is SO NOT a procrastinator, he wrote up his resume and drove around town setting up interviews. I said, "Are you serious? You still have a year left of school!" His reply was that the good jobs would go to the ones who wanted them the most, and he was not leaving that to chance. That is just the kind of man David is. And I love him for it. Little did I know he was also out shopping.

When I got home, I heard him out on the upper deck, making noise again.

And just like last time, I saw this....

and had to step over this...

And came upon this...

"What is this? Where did this really big, shiny, expensive grill come from??"
David draped his arm over it, like a long lost cousin and smiled.
"Lowes," he replied.

And then he was busy, hooking up the rotisserie he HAD to have as an add on.

And just like last time, by the morning, everything was cleaned up and put away. Sort of.

Yesterday, on his day off, he spent close to a thousand dollars on a meat machine. He owes me big. I will get my revenge in shoes.
Steve Madden shoes.

  13. I wish my husband would buy a grill (or BBQ as we call them) like that then I don't have to do all the cooking all the time it gets me out of a job.

    Cheers

  18. For funny!!
But I wish I didn't know how much our bills were.... what Your hun spent on a grill was about equal to what it cost to fill up our propane tank to get threw December & hopefully most of January!! So no steve madden shoes for me!!!

  20. Boys' toys truly are so much more expensive then ours! I may shop more, but what I buy costs LESS. At least that's my rationale with my husband.

I think you're definitely in good for some new shoes! You could even get some Christian Louboutins to equal the grill! :)

  21. What a nice grill! We so need a new one. Charlie's old charcoal one just doesn't have much life left in it.

  25. My husband has a very similar grill from Lowes. I was a little bummed when he spent so much money on it, but boy have I reaped the benefits of it. He grills A LOT which is less cooking that I have to do. :-) Y'all are so fun!
