Happy 27th Birthday to Me!!

What a busy weekend!

On Saturday, my mom came by to visit and to preview some more of her projects for Harbor William. She has been on a sewing kick and has been making some of the cutest things. She found a pattern for some really sweet bibs and has been using a lot of fun fabric. I am excited about how much she has had monogrammed! She also had a really fun blanket monogrammed. Thanks, mom. I love them all and can't wait for Harbor to try them out. : )

Saturday, from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m., David and I attended our first "couples" childbirth class. We loved it!!! We met a couple who knew us from our blog, which we thought was great. Blogging makes it such a small world. I was afraid we would be the couple laughing the entire time, but David was so serious. There was a couple who was laughing during the breathing exercises, but it wasn't us. David was like a drill Sargent. He took it all very seriously, which I am secretly grateful for. I want to go as natural as possible, Lord willing, and I know without his support, I will wimp out (which I will probably do anyway, so don't start placing your bets yet! Ha!) Mom and dad babysat Bichon for us, and mom took a few quick pictures as we were walking out of their house.

Mom's nursery is really coming along. She gave my old t.v. room a new coat of coffee colored paint, and a fresh coat of that color in a few shades lighter on the ceiling. My old bathroom got the same coffee color on the walls and a lime on the ceiling. She chose two shades of blue to work with also- one color of paint happens to be called "Harbor Mist", which we all thought was pretty funny!

When my parents built this house when I was in 7th grade, they built two back bedrooms jack-and-jill style, with a private connecting bathroom. Since I was an only child, one was my t.v. room and a place where I had a little office setup for homework, and of course, the other was my bedroom. Now, it has really turned into a great room for Harbor.

David and I visited their house on Sunday, where David painted some stripes on her walls. She wanted three colors, but didn't want them at a chair rail height. David still needs to touch up certain places, but they turned out fun.

While David painted, mom hung clothes in his back pockets. When they are together, they are so silly! : )

(29 weeks pregnant)

While David painted, I did what any teacher does on the weekend- grades papers, unfortunately. It was nice to grade at my parent's house on the couch with my dad though.

Sunday afternoon, before the painting began, we celebrated Rachel's, Alicia's, and my birthday at Ruby Tuesday.

I loved all of my presents, though I do feel old to still be getting gifts. I got a lot of great jewelry, the 5th season of 90210, and from my parents, a picture of a tufted leather ottoman for our living room. My parents and I were recently discussing how every kid seems to have a horrible coffee-table forehead scar, and so I was thrilled to see they had purchased an ottoman! Wow! Thanks, mom and dad.

Today was also my doctor's appointment. I am at 30 weeks and have gained a total of 19 lbs. I am measuring three weeks ahead of schedule (yikes!). Dr. Reiter guessed today that if Harbor keeps growing the way he is, he could end up being between 8 and 9 pounds. Double yikes! My blood pressure was great and I have not had any swelling at this point, which is a total miracle since I am still wearing heels and teaching all day.

So, moms, tell me. How many of you were told you would have big babies and actually did? Anyone? I'm thinking he could be wrong, but then again, I am definitely getting big and it is all baby. What do you think?

And my smallest baby(girl) was 5 pounds and they told me she was gonna be 7!! than our next one (boy)they told me I had to much amneotic fluid..had lotsa problems with that pregnancy and the day before he was born they thought he'd be around 9 pounds according to ultra sound....nope he was 6 pounds 11 oz...at 34 weeks!!! And went home 6 days later!!
It's so fun to be pregnant with a fellow blogger....But I don't look as cute as you do!!!
My advise..just Breathe!! I haven't had anything yet and as long as i stay relaxed and calm and granted mine go quick last one was less than half an hour....but I just remember to think about breathing!! And Your husband will be wonderful!! Stop by and see the homemade diaper bag it's so cute!!

  5. I think the doctors are off a lot on the baby weights. I think it's just a guess at best. If you are measuring 3 weeks ahead though, that is a pretty significant difference. I remember my doctor saying I measured a few days ahead. My baby came 11 days early and he was almost nine pounds so that was quite a shock, esp. since I am only 5'3" and only gained 27lbs.

  6. Happy Birthday!!

I love the bibs! Those are great! I cannot wait to see pictures of your mom's nursery finished. It looks like it is going to be adorable!

You look great! My feet have started to swell just a little this week so I wore my mary jane crocs to teach in today! I looked really classy!! I stuck some gel inserts into them and they felt sooo good since I'm on my feet all day! I know how you feel. Hang in there!

So funny you know Mary Beth. My parents love her! It is a small world!

  7. You look SO adorable!!! Happy Birthday!

Great idea on the soft leather ottoman!

I had a little premie, so don't know much about the big babies. However, I can tell you what it's like to gain 45 LBS! Yikes. :-)

  10. Happy B-day!

So I have to tell you I ran into the same thing, I was measuring 2-3 weeks ahead and my daughter Delaney ended up weighing 9lbs 9oz! Gasp!

You look great and I adore the nursery!

  11. I was told I would have a big baby. And he ended up being 9 lbs, 3.5 oz. And that was being induced 2 weeks early! I ended up having a c-section because of how big he was! Happy Birthday to you!

  12. I delivered twelve days late and was told that my boy would weigh between 9 and 10 pounds! He actually weighed 8lb 1oz, which is still a good size, but not what I feared. I also had a lot of amniotic fluid, not too much, but a lot, and that makes it harder to tell the size of the baby. I would'nt worry too much. I don't think that the doctor's guesses are that accurate. Happy Birthday!

*Is David available for hire! lol... The guy is always painting!
*Whew, 9lbs! Heather had 2 - 9 pounders! They came out ready to join the football team! haha!

  15. Happy birthday! Mine is Sunday--Virgos are the best!! When I had a 36 week ultrasouns they sais Grey was 7 lbs and 3 ounces then, so they induced me because they thought he would be huge by 39 weeks, but them he was only 7 lbs 10 ounces!

  17. Happy Birthday (a day late)! I was actually told I would have a small to average baby, and I ended up with a 10 lb 3 oz little girl (who was honestly the biggest baby I've EVER seen). I only gained 25 lbs total, and my belly was very big. I wouldn't go off of what they say, but at the same time don't be too afraid of a big baby. You might end up having a c-section, but it's not the end of the world!

  18. I'm so glad you had a good birthday...and although I am not a mom, I can tell you about my dear sis. With her first, she was told her babe would be close to about 7 lbs...he came out a 9 lbs, 21 1/2" long!!! The dr. was a bit mistaken! Now I don't want to scare you because my sister was almost 9 lbs when she was born and her hubs was over 10...so it just made sense that she would have babies.

  19. Happy Birthday!
    I love the cute bibs.
The doctor told me my second one would be about 7 pounds and he was 7 days early and weight 10 pounds 2 ounces. So, I honestly don't think they have a clue!
Big or small- you can do it. :)

  20. happy Birthday friend! I'm about to sit down and grade some papers myself...ugh.

But David did a fabulous job on the stripes! They really make the room look so modern and contemporary!

  21. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
How nice that you want to try natural child birth, I did with all 3 of our girls. Our youngest was the biggest at 8# 4oz but she was easy and the Dr. said that was because she helped push herself out with being a little bigger than our other two.

  22. Happy Birthday!! Your new monogrammed stuff is sooooo cute!

My daughter, who is 25, is expecting our first grandchild......A BOY!!!! on November 25th!!! I found your blog via Kelly's Korner via Boomama =) I am a 5th grade teacher and my son-in-law is a teacher, too. So, we have many things in common.

My daughter has gained about 20 lbs., too, and is doing very well. She has been very blessed with an easy (is there such a thing???) pregancy.

I'll keep checking on you. I'm so exctied for all of us!!! I am SO READY to be a grandma!!! I'll bet your mom thinks the same thing =)

    Love and prays....

  23. I agree with everyone else. They don't really have a clue about the babies size. They told us Riley was going to be 10 pounds + so they set me up to go early. He was 6 pounds even. They let my friend go a week over because they thought little Emma was going to be underweight around 5 pounds. She popped out at 12 pounds 11 ounces. No matter what size little Harbor is you will do great!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Yes - Ryan (Heather's first) weighed 9lbs 9oz.. She gained quiet a bit of weight with him.. Don't remember the exact number.

Brayden weighed a 8lb 12oz, *may be off on the ounce*

Rhett weighed a whopping 9 lb 10oz.. She wasn't as big as she was with Ryan, but she was all baby! I think the dr was off, he thought ryan was going to be 7 - 7 1/2...

  25. Happy Birthday!! The room in your mom's house looks cute! Does your mom have an embroidery machine? The bibs are adorable!!

My second was 9.3 lbs. .... I did have a little help with all three. I guess I figured that the important thing was that I was always going to remember the delivery of my little one's in a positive light. :)

  26. Jessica,

Don't worry about the whole 'measuring big' thing. Harbor will be the PERFECT size, regardless. I was blessed with a teeny tiny baby. You'll do well with whatever comes your way. Remember, the perfect birth experience is the exact birth experience you have! Each person is different.

By the way, you're looking great!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Happy Birthday! You & your momma are so creative! I love those bibs. Don't let them scare you too much about Harbor's size...the docs told my sister her baby would be a 10 pounder and she ended up only being 8.5 lbs (still big, but no where near 10 lbs!).

    ReplyDelete
  28. Wow, you look great! Those bibs are cute!
My first was 9.6 lbs and my second was 8 pounds!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Ok, I loved my doctor! He told me with the first, and I think he just expected it with the second. When I was a little closer than you, he could feel my belly and tell me how much they weighed! He felt my belly a few days before giving birth and he told me how big Jaden was going to be. He was right on!!!!! Amazing!!!!!

  30. Happy birthday girl! Ok, EVERYONE thought I was having twins the ENTIRE time I was pregnant b/c I was in maternity clothes at 10 weeks! Bailey weighed an even 7.8. VERY average sized baby. Also, Zach was the guy laughing at child-birthing class and BOY did he regret it when I really had to use it. I promise when you have to use it, you will be SO VERY GRATEFUL that you had those classes. Only 10...or less weeks! It will be so fun to have a baby!

  31. Hi there! Of course I don't mind you asking, I gained around 35 lbs with my 9lb 9oz girl. My first, Aidan was 8lbs 13oz and I think I gained around the same with him.

Try not to worry too much because as others have mentioned you it really can't go too much off what the dr predicts as far as size. Either way it's going to be ok! :)

Looking forward to reading how things progress!

    ReplyDelete
  32. OH, one more thing... I have my first pregnant 8th grader this year! It's SO sad to me! A baby is a huge responsibility and even with a husband and a GREAT mother-in-law it's hard sometimes. I am just in shock that I have a pregnant student!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Happy late birthday! :) I just love reading your blog and seeing all the fun creative things you and your family come up with! :)

The childbirth classes really helped me and Matt. I went in with the mindset I wanted to go as natural as possible - but was open to drugs. :) Then, I gave it to God and decided I wanted to enjoy the experience as much as possible - and I had a great delivery experience! :) I'm sure you will too.

  34. I don't think they think they are making it up. I think they THINK that they know what they are doing, and I'm sure now and then they are right. My gandpa always said "let a doctor be right once and they think their God" who knows

  35. Happy Birthday!!!!

And I knew I'd have a big baby and I was lucky I went 4 weeks early! She was 7 lbs 1/2 oz at 36 1/2 weeks when she was born.

I knew she'd be big, because DH was almost a 10 lb baby and I was almost a 9 lb baby.

All the doctors asked me if I miscalculated my dates, as she was the biggest baby in the NICU (she was there for lung immaturity, not the good point of her being early!). When I mentioned the infertility doctor's office and the date and time of my IUI, they laughed and agreed she was just a big baby!

  37. First of all, you are so adorable! I loved being pg because I didn't feel like I had to suck in my gut!! :) Its so fun to feel cute. I think you probably can relate because you look very sweet.

My doctor kept saying our baby would be "a good size". I finally pinned him down (not literally) and said, "What on earth does that mean, exactly?!" He got a weird look on his face and said, "Well, probably at least 8 pounds...if not more." So I thought, "Oh well, 8 pounds, no big deal. That's a healthy weight." Reagan was born 5 days past her due date at 9.5 pounds! My doctor was pretty shocked, actually. But let me say this, it is so so nice to have a "bigger" baby. You won't worry so much about them gaining weight and eating enough. I think big babies are a blessing.

The Prince was supposed to be a HUGE baby, and he weighed 7lbs 8oz, so I wouldn't worry about it.

  39. Happy Birthday! You look great, and let me just say that I am totally impressed that you are still able to wear heels!

I was a big baby myself (9lbs), and I gained 155 lbs with Jett (I had gained 45 lbs as of week 40 and I went a week over-YIKES), and he was only 7lbs 8oz. I love the name Harbor. So cute!

  40. OK, so I just realized I said I gained 155 lbs. YIKES! I meant that I weighed 155 pounds at the end of my pregnancy. Oops:)

  43. as an old l&d nurse, you have a 50-50 shot there with ultrasounds being accurate. a good range is 20% give or take. my emily was supposed to be 7 lbs by ultrasound and ended up only 5 lbs 15 oz!

I just want to say that I admire your creativity and zest for life - there are not too many people like that where I am from and I think it is wonderful. I wish you all the luck with your new baby!!

  46. Happy Birthday!! You look adorable! Well my doctor never had a guess (or never told me one) on either of my boys, but Koy was
8 lbs 10 ozs and Dagan was 9 lbs 3 ozs. I did end up getting an epidural with both. It is just not a very enjoyable experience without one!!

I love the stripes in your mom's nursery! Oh I remember the fun times we had in there! So many memories. Those bibs are too cute!!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Happy Birthday! I am sure this next year will be very memorable for you!
The bibs are adorable, I love monograms. How fun for Harbor to have 2 rooms at grandma's house! I am trying to remember how much Dayton was projected to weigh, he ended up being 7 pounds 9 oz and I was 2 weeks early! They say they gain a pound a week at that point, I could not imagine having a 9 pounder. The only advice I can give is be prepared, you never know when Harbor is going to make his grand entrance! He might just surprise you!

    ReplyDelete
  48. I was told Evan would be almost 9 lbs., but he was only 7 lbs. The doctor was shocked he was so small. I think sometimes all they do is guess!!!

We are one of those families who has a forehead story from a coffee table. You will be glad you have the soft ottoman.

  53. The baby size thing is a total guessing game! I was told my 2nd would be average sized, I measured normal and he was 9.8! Talk about yikes! Then, with my 3rd, they were thinking she would be larger, since my 2nd was, and she was 7.8 - I measured perfectly with each pregnancy! So, you just never know.

I am sure your baby will be perfect! :)
