Thanksgiving Dinner # 1

This Saturday, we celebrated Thanksgiving dinner with David's family. I know it seems really early, but there was a good reason behind having it so soon. Friday marked 5 years that David's dad has been gone. He died about two years into our marriage, which was a major blow to the family. David is the youngest of six kids, and comes from an extremely close knit family. There were about 35 people there on Saturday. Many from out of town could not make it, including a nephew in Texas, and a brother in Nebraska. Losing a father at 21 was very hard for David. His father will never know our children or see David graduate from college, among other things. It definitely made our marriage strong, being married so young. In honor of his father, the McCash family had Thanksgiving on Saturday. They planned a "scrapbook" dinner, where every child and spouse, including grand kids, designed their own scrapbook page. Each page was to commemorate a favorite memory of "dad". David and I chose to remember the whitewater rafting trip David took with his dad in the summer of 96 in Colorado on the Arkansas River. Instead of traditional Thanksgiving food, we all decided on Mexican. It was a lot of fun reminiscing and keeping the spirit of his father alive.

  4. Looks like everyone had a good time. Its hard to belive its already been 5yrs since Ed has been gone. I'm glad you guys got married when you did so Ed could be there & be in all your wedding photos. He was a great man who loved his kids & family so much. David had a great example as a father. And this get together was a great way to celebrate Ed's life.I bet those scrap book pages were good, lots of memories.

  7. I cannot imagine losing a parent at such a young age, or what it must have been like on both of you being newlyweds. I'm so glad that it seems to have brought you closer together. I bet the scrapbook was fun, and I'm sure you all had wonderful memories. Thanks about the tights--I love funky tights, but she'll probably hate me for it when she gets older!
